As part of TYs topic about World War One, they have been exploring what High Spen was like one hundred years ago. We were extremely fortunate that the very knowledgable Colonel Johnson was willing to give up a few hours of his time to spend with us.

During the afternoon we enjoyed a guided tour of High Spen listening to Mr Johnson explain how things have changed. We mapped which buildings are now present in one part of the village so we could compare this with old maps. We ended the afternoon talking about games that Mr Johnson played when he was younger.

It goes without saying that a fabulous afternoon was had by all, children and adults alike.
