Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium Pot at High Spen is a key tool in raising standards for specific groups of children. Funding is given to target specific pupils who live with families meeting nationally agreed criteria.
Over the past five years the proportion of pupils in our school receiving Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) grew steadily, until 2024-25, where we have seen a drop in eligible families. As of March 2025, approx. 30% of pupils are eligible and the funding this brings to school means we have largely been able to retain staff who would otherwise be lost to budget cuts. These staff now have a clear focus on supporting the progress of children in receipt of PPG e.g. running reading intervention throughout KS2, additional small group phonics sessions in KS1 and focus group and family work in EY. We have also been able to restructure staffing to create dedicated time for key staff to better support families in times of difficulty.
The reports below are the annual documents we produce to explain how we choose to invest the Pupil Premium we receive and most importantly the impact we are having in supporting children to reach their full potential.
