Y6 - MY
Hello! We are class MY and we are Year 6.
This year we have Mrs Heron and Mrs Lawson as our class teachers, supported by Miss Bowmer.
Malala’s story
Malala Yousafzai was born in Pakistan in 1997. In Pakistan, girls were not seen as equal to boys and many were not allowed to go to school. Malala’s father was a teacher and ran a school for girls because he thought it was important for all children to be able to go to school – including girls!
But everything changed when the Taliban took over. They banned many things such as having a television, playing music and they even banned girls going to school. Malala spoke out about this but this nearly cost her her life. One day, she was attacked on a bus and was shot in the head. She was sent to a hospital in England and did not wake up for 10 days.
After many months of recovery, she made the decision that she wanted to continue her fight for every girl to go to school. She told her story to the BBC and travelled all over the world to share her story and spread the word. She set up the Malala fund which is a charity aimed at supporting all girls to be able to go to school. She has even won awards for her work.
Malala has shown incredible courage and resilience. She is our class hero because she wants people to be seen as equal. She wants people to stand up for what they believe in and have their voice heard. She wants to make the world a better place. Class MY think these are all great qualities to aspire to.
